Lift up the Christ, not mortal men;
It matters not how "good" they've been; —
No righteousness have they to call their own!
The glory is Christ's and His alone!
Lift up the Lord Jesus, who died for all,
Who has ransomed man from Adam's fall;
Give not the glory unto men,
For all they, like I, were born in sin.
Humble servants they may be,
Those whom Jesus has ere set free,
But angels, yet higher now than men,
Give all the glory unto Him.
Man is nothing without God;
His very best is worthless, flawed;
But he who trusts in Christ the King
Will give Him the glory in everything.
Yea, though God's humble servant hath he been,
'Twas Christ who saved him from his sin,
Gave him the Pearl of matchless worth —
Salvation by the second birth.
